Apothecary Jar - Alum
Alum is and was used as an astringent in mouthwashes and gargles, dermatological preparations and as the styptic in styptic pencils.
This jar is handpainted using underglazes on porcelain. The design is consistent with those found on 19th century apothecary jars. The terminology used is what would have been found on apothecary jars of the era.
